Increasing Generator Efficiency And Capacity: A CASE STUDY by Proton OnSite

The purity of hydrogen used within electric power generators has a direct affect on cooling efficiency, windage friction losses, generating capacity and generator longevity. Hydrogen’s high thermal conductivity is the primary reason it is used as the cooling media in a generator instead of air. Hydrogen has a thermal conductivity of nearly seven times that of air, and its ability to transfer heat through forced convection is about 50% better than air. Maintaining hydrogen’s high thermal conductivity through purity monitoring and continuous improvement is important to the overall operation of hydrogen cooled electric generators. Continuous hydrogen replenishment has been proven to be an effective technique in maintaining purity within hydrogen cooled electric generators.

Our Principals - Proton OnSite, USA (World Leaders in Safe and Reliable PEM Water Electrolysis based Hydrogen Generation Plants) have published a case study that looks at the effects of purity, pressure and dew point of Hydrogen in the Power Industry. Read More...

India struggles to fight Food inflation - Nitrogen can rescue

Deterioration of Fruits, Vegetable, and other staple foods happens because of enhanced speed of "aging". Speed of aging of Fresh Agri produce is directly proportional to ambient temperature, and the presence of 'oxygen'.

India suffers from expensive and inefficient Hydrogen facility planning of Thermal Power plants

Hydrogen, the lightest, highest energy content and most combustible gas must be treated with caution. Past 60 years, our engineers and plant owners have had to contend with old technology plants using corrosive Caustic lye, and for umpteen reasons, difficult to control for safety, plant engineering.

With such profound and dangerous experience, with great aplomb, and concern for safety, our best in engineering planners have constructed Hydrogen plant at a remote place within the Thermal plant site. The sound logic being, that if this plant has an accident, the main plant and it’s personnel shall be safe. Having located the Hydrogen plant in a remote zone, made necessary further investments in Hydrogen compressors, Hydrogen cylinders, and cylinder filling facilities.

Modified Atmosphere Packaging - A growing need for the Indian Food Industry

Packaged food industry is rapidly growing in India. Over the last 10 years, there has been a mushrooming growth of companies with a very regional focus. However, this is still a largely unorganized sector and concepts of robust supply chain and distribution chain haven't truly pervaded the mindsets of budding entrepreneurs.

However, as many start-up companies reach a stable point in their business, they start to investigate ways and means to differentiate themselves in the market by having a fresher product and fewer returns from the shelves. Additionally, ability to increase the shelf life of the product directly impacts the bottom line of these companies.

In this educational article, we look at a technique called MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE PACKAGING (MAP) which uses Nitrogen for packaging and how it works. Read More...

A strong Hydrogen supply backbone required in India

Other than Chlor Alkali plants who make up majority of the bulk Hydrogen gas in India, there is a need in India for establishment of Merchant Hydrogen plants. Such Hydrogen plants located at least 200 kilometers radius away from Chlor Alkali plant, present a ‘Profitable Business Opportunity’. Read More...

How markets determine the price of Hydrogen

Hydrogen price to the customer is dependent on several factors such as demand and supply and also transportation cost. However, at a bare minimum, the fundamental cost of Hydrogen production is typically the largest contributor for determination of price to the customer. We look at these various elements in detail below.
  1. Equating with the price of Fossil Oil / Gas Fuel, freely available at the point of use. This is the least possible sales price, even from the point of view of any Hydrogen gas supplier.
  2. Transport and logistics cost of delivering Hydrogen to the point of use.
  3. Demand supply situation in and around the point of use of Hydrogen gas
  4. Competition from Hydrogen gas delivered by any other competing technology

Need to introduce high pressure bullet vessels for delivered Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the lightest element. Technically it is more challenging to liquefy in comparison to Nitrogen or Oxygen, though surely possible. We just cannot escape the fact that the gas transport vessel is much heavier than the gas per se, unless liquefied. Read More...

Nitrogen Gas is a viable and cost effective option in Pharmaceuticals Industries

Due to effect of its end product on human health and environment, pharmaceutical industries process their products with very precision and utmost care. Even a very minor ignorance can lead to a hazard. The pharmaceutical needs to be very precise about its product from its manufacturing to packaging and transportation. Oxygen in the atmospheric air reacts with the processing chemicals, leads to change in chemical composition of the drug manufactured which would become a threat to human life and will adversely affect the reputation of concerned manufacturing unit in terms of brand and turn over both.
